Sciences – Biology, Chemistry and Physics
Scientific innovation continues to improve our lives. Its unapologetic evidence-based method has cured diseases, allowed planes to fly and synthesised valuable chemical compounds previously unseen in the natural world. It rejects pseudoscientific ideas such as alchemy, the idea of a flat Earth or homeopathy. The sciences have also increased the complexity of our lives and presented moral and ethical questions: just because we can, should we?
Our students face a world full of information, much of questionable scientific accuracy. With this in mind, it is our intent to equip our students, not only with a body of useful scientific knowledge, but also with an evidence-based approach to their daily lives, where they can effectively scrutinise fact from fiction. We hope this flexible and sceptical outlook allows them to live healthy, prosperous lives in a continuously changing world with its unknown future skillset.
Our curriculum is an ambitious five to seven-year programme taught as three separate sciences: Biology, Chemistry and Physics, gradually leading to the mastery of 10 big scientific ideas. These ideas, and their accompanying skills, have been chosen as those most important to a modern global community of informed citizens:

We believe that there are three aspects to the mastery of scientific ideas:
- Learning a body of core knowledge
- Demonstrating understanding of that knowledge
- Practising a set of skills that support that knowledge
