    Published 24/08/23

Students and staff at Plymouth High School for Girls are celebrating after receiving their GCSE results today.

Plymouth High is pleased to see another year of strong results. After two years of hard work and dedication our students should be proud of their achievements.  Students and staff have worked incredibly hard throughout their GCSE courses and have been rewarded with some outstanding grades.  We are tremendously proud of year 11, they have shown resilience and determination over their time at Plymouth High and it was wonderful to share in their success with them today.

Whilst the school is proud of all of our students and their achievements, there are some students who performed exceptionally.

Lara Botha, Zara Couchman and Kitty Harland each achieved an amazing 8 grade 9s, whilst Frankie Baldry, Adele Boumphrey, Laura Harajarvi, Sophie Hutchings and Holly Whitehouse all achieved at least 6 grade 9s. To perform at such a high level across so many subject areas is truly impressive.

Most of our students have decided to stay at Plymouth High for their A level study, whilst some will be accessing a wide range of post 16 courses elsewhere. It is wonderful to see our students following their dreams and interests and choosing courses that match their skills and ambitions. It has been a pleasure for staff at the school to work with our exceptional young people over the course of their GCSE study and we wish them the very best for their future.

Collecting their results today, Jessica said: “I’m really chuffed and surprised with the results, I got two 8’s!”

Adele said: “I’m really pleased with my results and glad that my hard work paid off. I’m looking forward to starting Sixth Form at Plymouth High.”

Zara said: “I feel overwhelmed. I’m proud of myself for working hard. I’m doing biology, drama, psychology and German at Plymouth High in September. Well done everyone!”

Frankie said: “Thank you to all my teachers that helped me. I am just really happy!”

Simon Underdown, Headteacher at Plymouth High, said: “I am tremendously proud of year 11. They have worked hard, shown real resilience and contributed so positively to the life of the school setting a good example for those that follow them. It has been a pleasure working with these talented and kind young people and a joy to see them preparing for their ‘next steps’ study."

“I very much look forward to seeing just how well year 11 perform in their courses next year and am sure that they will give of their best.”

“A huge thank you to our wonderful team of staff, families and community for supporting our students to achieve such excellent outcomes. Year 11 have involved themselves fully in the life of the school and very much embody our motto, for life not school we learn.”

  • Students at Plymouth High Sixth Form celebrate their A-Level results

    Published 17/08/23

Students and staff at Plymouth High School for Girls, located on St Lawrence Road and part of the Thinking Schools Academy Trust, are celebrating after receiving their A-Level grades today.

It has been another year of A level successes.  Students and staff have worked incredibly hard throughout the last two years and they have been rewarded with some outstanding grades.  Plymouth High are immensely proud of its students; they have shown tenacity, kindness and sheer determination throughout their study.  It has been a privilege to share in their successes today.

Whilst the school is proud of all of its students and their achievements, they are again celebrating some particularly outstanding results.

Sarah achieved 4 A* grades in Chemistry, Physics, Mathematics and Further Mathematics. Abi achieved 3 A* grades in Biology, Chemistry and History, whilst also achieving an A grade in German, and Lara achieved A* grades in French and Mathematics whilst also achieving A grades in Further Mathematics and Law.  To achieve A* and A grades across four A level subjects is a phenomenal achievement and is testament to their hard work and dedication.

In addition, the following students achieved 3 A levels at grade A or above; Helen, Ebba, Ophelia, Ingrid, Esther, Khalid, Isabella and Christina. To record such high grades across their A levels is a tremendous feat and these students rightly deserve their success.

Alan Jenkins, Head of Sixth Form, said: “This is the first cohort I have seen through both years 12 and 13. I am immensely proud of not only the results they have worked so hard to achieve but also the brilliant young adults they have become. The Sixth Form team will truly miss their presence in and around our school and we wish them all the best for their post-18 next steps”.

Students are delighted to have secured their ‘next steps’ courses.  Most of our students will be going to university this year or starting their apprenticeships, whilst some will be entering the world of work.  Others have decided to defer their further learning until 2024.

Students have secured places at university to study in a wide range of subjects including; Geography, Politics, Law, Fine Art and Mathematics.  Apprenticeships have been secured with the BBC and a leading insurance company.  It is wonderful to see our students continue to go off in different directions to follow their own dreams and ambitions.

Ingrid has won a place at Oxford, her boundless enthusiasm for learning and her meticulous attention to detail has shone though in all she has done.  Ingrid fully deserves her success. Abi and Ebba have both been successful in gaining places to study medicine. Their hard work, continued dedication to their studies and passion for their chosen career has been inspirational to their peers and younger students. Abi said: “I can’t believe these results; I am so pleased.  Hard work does pay off.”

Collecting their A Level results today, Elizabeth said, “I’m so pleased to get these results and now off to my first choice” and Phoebe said “I’m so happy to get the grades to study at Cardiff University”.

Simon Underdown, Headteacher at Plymouth High, said:

“I am incredibly proud of our students as they receive their A Level grades today. They have set a wonderful example to the younger years, studied hard and earned their success.  It has been a delight to see their passion for their subjects grow and develop over the course of their qualifications and to see them foster a real joy for learning.  They have embodied our motto, for life not school we learn, and it will stand them in good stead for the working world.”

“It is excellent to see the impressive array of next steps, from top universities to competitive apprenticeships and full-time jobs.”

“A huge thank you to our wonderful team of staff, families and community for supporting our young people to achieve such excellent outcomes. Year 13 have been a fabulous year group, they have worked hard, involved themselves in the life of the school and made great friendships along the way.”

“Whilst we will miss our year 13. We wish them happiness and ongoing success for the future.

A huge well done from everyone at PHSG, thank you for the memories.”
