Library News

A round up of the events that have taken place in the library in the Spring term 2024.

It’s been a busy term in the library, with a variety of fun events!

Blind Date with a Book

In February, we held our annual ‘Blind Date with a Book’ event, where students are invited to choose a wrapped book to read.

We’re encouraging them not to judge a book by it’s cover and to try a genre they might not usually choose.

The books flew off the shelves and we read some great book reviews.

LGBTQ+ History Month

February is also LGBT+ History Month. This year’s theme was ‘Medicine under the scope’ which celebrated LGBT+ peoples’ contribution to the field of Medicine and Healthcare both historically and today.

In the library we aim to provide books that offer different viewpoints that help build empathy and help our students become aware of their own and others identities.

International Womens Day

March 8th was International Women’s Day and March is Women’s History Month, which celebrates the achievements of women , past and present.

World Book Week

March also saw us celebrate World Book Week.

We had great fun with a book quiz, book character dressing up and daily brain teasers during tutor time.

We had a fantastic treat for the end of the week, with author Emma Carroll joining us for a morning.

March 18-24th is Neurodiversity Celebration week.

One of our student librarians, Eloisa, helped put together a display in the library, showcasing some of the books we have featuring neurodivergent characters. Books are a great way to raise awareness and improve understanding of different experiences.
