Strengthening Communities: Schools Unite for Student Voice

Primary and secondary schools within The Thinking Schools Academy Trust recently gathered for the 'Student Voice' meeting, marking a significant step towards empowering students to shape their educational experience.

Student leaders nominated from within the school's were able to actively engage openly in discussions, sharing their experiences and perspectives. Their enthusiasm and creativity were contagious as they brainstormed innovative ideas and strategies to address the identified areas of focus.

The meeting focused on four key areas: charity work, food service, "Be Your Best Self" school journals, and environmental sustainability. These themes raised reflect our dedication to addressing crucial aspects of student life and well-being, enhancing the overall educational experience within our school communities.

The atmosphere throughout the meeting was characterised by positivity, mutual respect, and a genuine desire to make a difference. Students embraced the opportunity to collaborate with peers from different schools, recognising the collective strength that comes from working together towards common goals.

As the meeting concluded, there was a sense of excitement and anticipation for the implementation of the ideas generated. Students left inspired and motivated, eager to bring back newfound insights and initiatives to their respective school communities.

The success of our Trust wide Student Voice meetings highlights the power of collaboration and the transformative impact that can be achieved when we come together as a community. Together, we are stronger and by harnessing the collective talents, perspectives, and passions of our students we can create a brighter future for all.

Simon Underdown, Headteacher at Plymouth High School for Girls, who leads on the pupil voice at the multi-academy trust, said:

It is lovely to see the schools within the trust uniting to prioritise the student voice. This collective effort underscores the importance we place on listening to our students and ensuring their perspectives shape the direction of our educational community. By coming together, we not only strengthen bonds across our schools but also reaffirm our commitment to providing a platform for every student to be heard and valued.
