PHSG Celebrating LGBTQ+ History

In celebration of LGBTQ+ History Month, Plymouth High School for Girls, collaborated with other schools across the Trust in participation in the "We Are One" event. This initiative, led by the Trust, aims to foster inclusivity, understanding, and respect for LGBTQ+ history and culture across all member schools.

A standout feature of Plymouth High School for Girl's, is our active engagement of our student leadership team.

Through open student-led discussions, the head student team designed and planned the event in school, ensuring that it truly reflects the diverse perspectives within our school community.  A particular feature was the scavenger hunt, which combined learning and competition in a fun and engaging way.

Ellathea, Year 12 Student, part of the Head Student Team said:

“Our goal is to create a school environment where every student feels seen and heard.”

“The scavenger hunt not only provides a fun and engaging way for students to learn about LGBTQ+ history and symbols but also encourages meaningful conversations and reflections on the importance of diversity and acceptance".

"We wanted to create an activity that combines learning with fun. The scavenger hunt allows students to explore LGBTQ+ history in a hands-on way, developing their understanding while having a great time."

In addition, Ellathea led the Inclusivity and Diversity group in whole school assemblies to raise awareness of LGBTQ+ History and hosted a bake sale to raise-money for LGBTQ+ focused charities.

The school community couldn't be prouder of the efforts made by its students to champion inclusivity and diversity.
