Deputy Head Student: Kitty H
Deputy Head Student: Ellathea H

We cannot wait to find out more about our new Leaders, to find out about their roles, interests and what they hope to achieve at PHSG over the next 12 months please visit the HST website page here or follow their Instagram page

Any Year 12 student is welcome to apply to be on the Head Student Team. There are four places on the team which consists of a Head Student and three Deputy Head Students.

Each student will take on a specific leadership role within the team and alongside the roles, the Student Leaders are also involved in organising and hosting school events and assemblies.

In addition to this, they have fortnightly meetings with the Headteacher to discuss ideas, update on developments and communicate the student voice of the school.

The roles are a great way to develop a vast array of skills and are highly regarded to the students at PHSG as the ultimate privilege and Student Leadership role to aspire to.

Here is what our 2023 Head Student said reflecting on the past 12 months.

Poppy, Head Student 2023

Over this past year, one of my favourite parts about being on the Head Student Team has been working with students from all years and making sure student voice can be listened to. I am so grateful to everyone who has come to a Student Council meeting this year, as student voice is nothing without the students! I have also loved working on a Trust-wide level where Plymouth High’s suggestions and ideas were heard all around the country. This has been such a big development for the role of Head of the Student Council which I am so thankful for, and I hope will continue developing in the future.

I have learnt so much about student leadership from my role. One of the most important things has been public speaking and confidence. This time last year I would have never been able to speak at an event or to a group of students without nerves, and it is great to see how much this has improved from being Head Student. I have also learnt how vital it is to be approachable and friendly to encourage involvement, and making sure Student Council was a welcoming environment has really helped me this past year.

I would lastly like to thank everyone who has helped me over the last year, especially the other HST members and those who came to every council meeting, I genuinely couldn’t have done it without your support!

Erin, Deputy Head Student 2023

There are endless things I could say for what I have most enjoyed about my time in the Head Student Team as well as within my role as Charity and Wellbeing Coordinator.

The most significant one would likely be making a difference within the school community through events like ‘paint a brick’. These have had a lasting impact on myself and I loved talking to people from different years who I would never have spoken to if I was not on the HST.

Spending time with my fellow head students has been equally amazing and I have definitely made great new friends through this role. Student leadership allowed me to gain a broader insight and understand different perspectives I had not considered before. As a result of this, I feel even more comfortable and confident within myself and what I value.

Although student leadership certainly has its challenges, this experience has been so rewarding. I can’t wait to see how the 2024 head students develop their individual and collective roles as a team.

Hi everyone! I’m Verity, your new Head Student and editor of ‘Hear Me Out’! I’m most looking forward to interacting with the students and the school to make a really memorable year. I can’t wait to take my own creativity on a journey as I curate various editions of the school magazine and I hope to encourage more people into reading it! We already have lots of ideas for things to do, and I think my team will bring a really enthusiastic and positive energy to the school in 2024.

Hi, I’m Kitty, the new Head of Student Council for 2024. I'm looking forward to seeing lots of new faces at student council! We already have such a good group, and I've been enjoying getting to know everyone. My aim for 2024 is to maintain student council as a welcoming place where people feel safe to share their thoughts, so that we can make student supported changes for the better, and to inspire student leadership from the very start of the school experience.
