National Rail Update - strikes

You may have seen that the ASLEF union (train drivers) have announced two further strike dates for Saturday 30 September & Wednesday 4 October for train operators across England, including GWR.

As on previous strike days, this will have a major impact on our services, with many parts of the network having no service whatsoever. Trains that are planned to run will be subject to short notice changes and cancellations, and will start later and finish much earlier than usual. We are also expecting there to be an impact on the days before and after strikes too.

Our teams are working to get journey planners updated as well as our dedicated webpage at as soon as possible. We will also be making customers aware through station and on board announcements, station posters, and traditional and social media.

ASLEF has also announced a ban on overtime working from Friday 29 September, and from Monday 2 to Friday 6 October. While we do not anticipate that this will have a major impact on our scheduled services, customers should check before they travel using There is also the potential for delays and cancellations due to short notice driver absence.  We will do our best to avoid this, but the reduced pool of available drivers does make this more difficult. Our Night Riviera Sleeper service will not run throughout the period of the industrial action.

If you can make your networks aware of these new dates, that would be greatly appreciated and as ever if there’s anything you need at all please do not hesitate to get in touch – sorry to be the bearer of bad news.

Best wishes
