Curriculum Enrichment Week 2023

Curriculum Enrichment Week (CEW) took place on the week commencing 3rd July 2023.  Activities are not only of educational value but also provide the elements of personal and social skills students gain by taking part, making new friends, meeting old ones and having to work with others away from their home environment, often for the first time.

There were a vast array of activities on offer for students to choose from and students have been stretched and challenged throughout their week. They have developed new skills and made memories which will last a lifetime. 'For life, not school, we learn'.

Please see below some student write up's of their experiences.

Ski and Snowboarding - by Molly, 7L

From the 3rd to the 7th July, me and a group of year 7-9's took to the slopes of Plymouth Snow sports centre and Alpine Lodge. Throughout the week we took part in many activities: skiing, snowboarding, tobogganing, snow tubing and the viper drop. With the help of our fully trained and kind instructors, we were encouraged to step out of our comfort zones and try something new. For some of us, this was our first time stepping onto the slopes, whilst for other more experienced ski/snowboarders, they built more confidence and learnt new skills. But, whatever level we were at, we had fun and learnt something new. The other activities were enjoyable too - we zoomed around the toboggan with the wind in our hair, and we flew down the snow tube slopes and the viper drop in rubber rings as we clung on for dear life! Although busty most of the time, we had just enough time for a lunch break, which was full of smiles and giggles and delicious chips, pasties and sausage rolls. It wasn't just us having a good time, the teachers had fun too! Mr Varrall sped faster than light down the toboggan and mr Richards skied down the main slopes (but also fell over his skis), whilst Mrs Crouch and Mr Graves watch and took some awesome action photos. Although we were all extremely tiered, plus a couple of bruises here and there, I'm sure we can all agree that it was full of memorable experiences and was a week we will never forget.

Isles of Scilly

Thirty Year 7 students recently embarked on an unforgettable camping trip to Hugh Town on St Mary's Island, Isles of Scilly.

Throughout their adventure, they delved into thrilling activities such as kayaking and stand-up paddleboarding, immersing themselves in the pristine waters. The students also experienced an adrenaline rush as they zoomed across the waves on a fast RIB. Exploring the Eastern Isles on a wildlife boat trip, they marvelled at the diverse natural wonders. On the sandy shores of Tresco, they unleashed their creativity, crafting fantastic pieces of beach art. They embarked on an ambitious and memorable 10-mile hike around St Mary's, basking in its breath-taking beauty and changing scenery. Moreover, their drama performances at ScillyFest 2023 showcased their talent and passion.

This camping trip truly created unforgettable memories for all involved.

Please see below our CEW Gallery, we will keep adding to this as more trip images come through. All CEW images will be shared with the students on Team's in the final week of term.
