Black History Month - October

October marks Black History Month in the UK, a chance to reflect on and celebrate Black British history

This week, our Head Student Team - Ellen, Zara and Catarina - have been delivering assemblies to individual Year groups, looking at Black British history, including the Windrush Generation, as well as the achievements of individuals across science, literature, sports and many other fields.

For our students and wider society, Black History Month is not just about celebrating well-known figures, but also about recognising stories and contributions that have often been overlooked.  Learning about these experiences helps us to develop a fuller understanding of British history and reflect on whose voices and perspectives are represented in what we learn.

Over the coming weeks, our Head Student Team hope to continue this learning beyond their assemblies, with engaging activities around school that will offer students more opportunities to learn, get involved, and celebrate Black history and culture.
