Students awarded in Intermediate Biology Olympiad

We are proud to celebrate the success of Year 12 PHSG students who embraced this valuable national challenge

Congratulations to our Year 12 students who took part in this year’s UKBC Intermediate Biology Olympiad.  This is a challenging national competition run by the UK Biology Competitions, designed to stretch and inspire students beyond the A level specification.
Over 16,000 students took part nationally this year, making this a highly competitive event. Awards are given to the highest-performing students across the country, with Gold awarded to the top 5% nationally, Silver to the top 15% nationally and Bronze to the top 30% nationally.
We are especially pleased to congratulate Eva T (12A) and Beauty A (12K), who both achieved Bronze awards. This is a fantastic achievement and reflects their strong biological knowledge, problem-solving skills and commitment to taking on an academic challenge.
Taking part in optional academic competitions such as the Intermediate Biology Olympiad is valuable in many ways. It gives students the chance to deepen their subject knowledge, develop confidence, test themselves against a national field and demonstrate genuine academic curiosity. These experiences can also be helpful when writing UCAS personal statements, particularly when students are able to reflect on what they learned from taking part.
Most importantly, opportunities like this remind us that learning is not simply about examinations or qualifications. In the spirit of our school motto, For life, not school, we learn, we are proud of all students who chose to challenge themselves, extend their thinking and engage with biology for its own sake.
Well done to all 10 students who participated!
