Dancing to Distinction!

Year 7 student, Isla, reaches new milestone in her dancing journey, a recognition of her hard work

Following a demanding week performing in our recent school production of Legally Blonde Jnr., Isla W, 7K finished her busy schedule by completing not one but two dance exams: Grade 3 and Junior Bronze Medal.

A Grade 3 tap exam tests technical accuracy, assessing skills such as complex rhythms, coordination, posture, and confidence demonstrated in a student's performance.  After a nailbiting few weeks, the results finally arrived and Isla’s family were proud to share with us that both exams were passed with Distinction - the highest mark possible!

Isla’s dance journey began when she was just 5 years old after joining a class with her best friend, and for the past few years she has also been taking individual tap lessons to deepen her skills.  She trains weekly, balancing after-school sessions with weekend classes.  Her goal is to complete her Grade 4 exam within the next year.

What makes Isla’s achievement even more special is how deeply dance has become a part of who she is.  Naturally shy, Isla has found her confidence on the dance floor – and it shows.  Whether she’s performing with a bright smile, or speaking up more in class, Isla radiates a joyful energy.

And Isla’s creativity doesn’t stop on the dance floor.  The imagination, discipline, and confidence she has gained through dancing are sparking exciting ideas for the future.  Isla hopes to channel her creative energy towards becoming an entrepreneurial businesswoman, with dreams of one day opening her own “doggy day care”.  Her dedication and passion have certainly paid off this far, so watch this space...

Well done, Isla – keep dancing, keep dreaming, and keep shining!

Isla’s journey is a great reminder of how much young people can grow when they find something they truly enjoy, whether that be in the classroom or taking part in extracurricular activities. This accomplishment is a rewarding reflection of Isla’s personal growth, and we are very proud of her – Mr Underdown
