Escape from the classroom!

Year 10 History students recently took part in a fascinating and thought-provoking visit to Shepton Mallet Prison, one of the oldest working prisons in the UK
The trip offered a unique opportunity to bring their learning beyond the classroom and experience history in a powerful, immersive setting.
During the visit, students were given a guided tour of the prison, covering over 400 years of history. As they walked through the original cell blocks, exercise yards, and execution rooms, students gained a deeper understanding of how prison life has changed over time. This hands-on experience encouraged them to ask insightful questions about the justice system, both past and present.
A particular highlight of the day was the 'escape room challenge', where students worked together to solve clues and escape the prison cells!
Students represented the school excellently throughout the day and returned with a deeper appreciation of both historical and modern perspectives on crime and punishment.
