Metacognition in Action!

We are nearly at the end of our ‘Week of Thinking’ which celebrates the metacognitive processes our students use every day in school – Planning, Monitoring, and Evaluating.

Thank you to Beauty A, Katie W, Lilly P, Ilanyda A, Scarlett D, and Isabelle T for sharing their fabulous thinking methods with us!

- Thinking maps are visual-verbal tools mapped to specific cognitive skills, often used to organise thought (planning).

- Thinking hats encourage looking at decisions from six distinct perspectives (monitoring).

- Thinker's keys encourage creative, critical, and analytical thinking through prompts, enabling students to explore topics from new angles (evaluation).

Brain food

Today, our students also enjoyed the special Food for Thought menu in our canteen, featuring ingredients known to boost brain health, focus and wellbeing.

Staff and students enjoyed free porridge with brown sugar at breaktime, followed by salmon fishcakes, spinach and hash brown bites, and the 'supergreens' frittata at lunch!

Why not round off the week by baking a nutritious lemon and blueberry sponge.  Thinking Schools Trust have put together a delicious recipe for you, and we’d love to see your photos if you decide to give it a go!
