Year 11 Sixth Form taster days

Your future starts here!
“I have really enjoyed having the opportunity to study in free periods and to gain a proper understanding of how A level courses are in reality. I love how honest the teachers are, they aren’t trying to convince you to study it but rather help you make an educated choice on your courses for the next 2 years. Thank you for letting me have this opportunity.” – Year 11 student
Over the past two days, our school has welcomed Year 11 students to an exciting Sixth Form taster experience. The event has been designed to give students a fully immersive experience into life as a Sixth Former, helping them to explore subjects, meet staff, and discover the opportunities that await them. Students took part in a variety of lessons, experiencing the depth and challenge of post-16 study. From engaging classroom discussions to hands-on activities, the sessions showcased the academic rigour and independence expected at this level.
Mr Jenkins, Head of Sixth Form, says, "I have loved seeing how Year 11 have fully embraced what it's like to be a Sixth Former over the last 2 days, from studying independently in our Sixth Form study centre to attending the subjects they wanted to investigate. This experience will hopefully mean they are better placed to make good decisions about their best post-16 next steps."
Student feedback has been overwhelmingly positive, with praise for the engaging approach and clear subject introductions provided by our teaching staff:
"They have been informative on what topics are in the courses."
"They have given me a better understanding of what Year 12 will be like."
"Getting to experience what Sixth Form is like has been great."
"[The taster days are] a good way of finding out how lessons would be in Sixth Form and helping understand what subjects would be good for each of us to do."
"They [the taster days] were very helpful to find out the lesson content and structure of the day as an A level student. All the teachers were very helpful at answering questions."
Thank you to all staff and students who contributed to making these taster days such a success!
