A Level Art workshop with Jo Beer

Earlier this term, our Year 12 and 13 Art students enjoyed an exceptional opportunity to take part in a workshop hosted by practising artist Jo Beer, a full-time oil painter based in Cornwall.

Jo’s work is predominantly portrait and figurative with her subjects ranging from members of the general public she encounters to celebrities she admires.

During the workshop, students gained valuable insight into the life of a professional artist with Jo sharing her experiences of working full-time in the industry. Alongside this, she taught very high-level colour-mixing and oil-paint application techniques, guiding students through methods used in professional portrait painting. The hands-on session allowed them to experiment, ask questions, and strengthen their own skills under Jo’s expert eye.

The workshop was relaxed and engaging, and Jo’s down-to-earth approach made it easy for students to connect with her, transforming the session into a meaningful learning experience in which our young artists were able to elevate their own skills.

We are grateful to Jo for this unique opportunity, and  we look forward to continuing to provide enriching opportunities that spark imagination and ambition in our students.
