British Science Week 2025: Celebrating Change and Adaptation!

Last week, our school was buzzing with innovation and creativity as students took on exciting challenges to mark British Science Week 2025. This year’s theme, "Change and Adapt," inspired students to explore how materials can be modified to solve real-world problems—and they certainly rose to the challenge!

Building Bridges with Brainpower

One of the standout events was the Bridge-Building Challenge, where teams had to construct the strongest bridge using nothing but paper art straws. The goal? To span a 30cm gap and hold the heaviest possible mass. After some impressive engineering and nail-biting weight tests, we crowned our winners:

🥈 Silver Medalists: Florence and Gabby (7A)
🥇 Gold Medalists: Emma and Olivia (11K)

Boat-Building Challenge: Sink or Swim?

Next, students tested their design skills in the Boat-Building Challenge. Using just two 30cm sheets of aluminium foil and two art straws, participants had to create a boat that could hold as much weight as possible before sinking. The competition was fierce, with a variety of innovative designs, but in the end, the winning boat held an incredible 1kg of mass before going under!

🏆 Winners: Emma and Olivia (11K) – an unstoppable duo in this year’s challenges!

Final Competition: Science Meets Art!

The excitement isn’t over yet! Our Science and Art competition is still running until 31st March. Students are invited to create artwork based on the theme "Change and Adapt in Science." We can’t wait to see the creativity on display and look forward to judging the entries!

A huge well done to everyone who took part in British Science Week—it’s been an incredible celebration of problem-solving, teamwork, and scientific thinking. Stay curious, keep experimenting, and who knows? Maybe our next great scientist or engineer is right here in our school! 🚀🔬
