  • Students at Plymouth High Sixth Form celebrate their A-Level results

    Published 17/08/23

Students and staff at Plymouth High School for Girls, located on St Lawrence Road and part of the Thinking Schools Academy Trust, are celebrating after receiving their A-Level grades today.

It has been another year of A level successes.  Students and staff have worked incredibly hard throughout the last two years and they have been rewarded with some outstanding grades.  Plymouth High are immensely proud of its students; they have shown tenacity, kindness and sheer determination throughout their study.  It has been a privilege to share in their successes today.

Whilst the school is proud of all of its students and their achievements, they are again celebrating some particularly outstanding results.

Sarah achieved 4 A* grades in Chemistry, Physics, Mathematics and Further Mathematics. Abi achieved 3 A* grades in Biology, Chemistry and History, whilst also achieving an A grade in German, and Lara achieved A* grades in French and Mathematics whilst also achieving A grades in Further Mathematics and Law.  To achieve A* and A grades across four A level subjects is a phenomenal achievement and is testament to their hard work and dedication.

In addition, the following students achieved 3 A levels at grade A or above; Helen, Ebba, Ophelia, Ingrid, Esther, Khalid, Isabella and Christina. To record such high grades across their A levels is a tremendous feat and these students rightly deserve their success.

Alan Jenkins, Head of Sixth Form, said: “This is the first cohort I have seen through both years 12 and 13. I am immensely proud of not only the results they have worked so hard to achieve but also the brilliant young adults they have become. The Sixth Form team will truly miss their presence in and around our school and we wish them all the best for their post-18 next steps”.

Students are delighted to have secured their ‘next steps’ courses.  Most of our students will be going to university this year or starting their apprenticeships, whilst some will be entering the world of work.  Others have decided to defer their further learning until 2024.

Students have secured places at university to study in a wide range of subjects including; Geography, Politics, Law, Fine Art and Mathematics.  Apprenticeships have been secured with the BBC and a leading insurance company.  It is wonderful to see our students continue to go off in different directions to follow their own dreams and ambitions.

Ingrid has won a place at Oxford, her boundless enthusiasm for learning and her meticulous attention to detail has shone though in all she has done.  Ingrid fully deserves her success. Abi and Ebba have both been successful in gaining places to study medicine. Their hard work, continued dedication to their studies and passion for their chosen career has been inspirational to their peers and younger students. Abi said: “I can’t believe these results; I am so pleased.  Hard work does pay off.”

Collecting their A Level results today, Elizabeth said, “I’m so pleased to get these results and now off to my first choice” and Phoebe said “I’m so happy to get the grades to study at Cardiff University”.

Simon Underdown, Headteacher at Plymouth High, said:

“I am incredibly proud of our students as they receive their A Level grades today. They have set a wonderful example to the younger years, studied hard and earned their success.  It has been a delight to see their passion for their subjects grow and develop over the course of their qualifications and to see them foster a real joy for learning.  They have embodied our motto, for life not school we learn, and it will stand them in good stead for the working world.”

“It is excellent to see the impressive array of next steps, from top universities to competitive apprenticeships and full-time jobs.”

“A huge thank you to our wonderful team of staff, families and community for supporting our young people to achieve such excellent outcomes. Year 13 have been a fabulous year group, they have worked hard, involved themselves in the life of the school and made great friendships along the way.”

“Whilst we will miss our year 13. We wish them happiness and ongoing success for the future.

A huge well done from everyone at PHSG, thank you for the memories.”
