We are looking for a talented and ambitious part time Teacher of English to join Plymouth High School for Girls on a Fixed Term Contract. Start Date, 4th November 2024.
As the summer drew to close, one of our very own students made waves—literally! On Saturday, 31st August, Isabel from 9T took part in her very first open water swim event at Roadford Lake, and what a debut it was!
We are delighted to announce that our Deputy Head Student, Frankie Baldry has been awarded the Plymouth Young City Laureate 2024-25 with Literature Works. During her Laureateship, Frankie will undertake writing commissions and perform at events across the city.
PHSG will be hosting an Open Evening on Thursday 19th September from 4.15pm - 6.30pm. Booking is not required.
Plymouth High is pleased to see a year of strong results and congratulates students and staff for the hard work they have put in over the last few years. A quarter of all GCSEs achieved were at the top two grades and 46% of results were at grade 7 or above.
The school saw particular success in subjects including French, Food, Geography, Design and technology, English and RE where more than 50% of all results were at grade 7 and above.
Whilst we are proud of all our young people, there were some standout results, these include;
Collecting her GCSE results today, Grace SB said:
“My heart is still pounding but I feel really good, I’m really happy with how I have done, particularly in English literature”
Megan B added:
“I am really happy with my grades, especially in the subjects that I found hard. Thanks so much to all my teachers”
Sanskruti K said:
“I am so thankful, happy and elated that all my hard work has paid off. I am looking forward to studying maths, biology and chemistry next year”
And twins Ruby and Jasmin HW said they were surprised and glad that their hard work has paid off.
Ruby added “I am so pleased with my results and looking forward to my apprenticeship in Business Administration next year” whilst Jasmin concluded “I am delighted with my results and am and looking forward to my apprenticeship in Engineering next year”.

“Many of our young people achieved exceptional results today and that is testament to their hard work and dedication. We are incredibly proud of our students and know that they will move forward in their learning journey to achieve great things.
“Our student’s hard work and determination exemplify our motto, 'For life, not school, we learn'. It has been a pleasure working with such a wonderful group of young people.”
“I am grateful to our superb school staff and our supportive parents for all that has been achieved in helping our year 11 through their studies.”
“Whilst most of our year 11 will stay with us for their A levels, others will embark on a different path. We wish all of our students the very best of luck and success in whatever they decide to do next.”
A Level outcomes continued to excel at the high school with over half of all grades at A* to B, 78% of all grades at A* to C and the school achieved a 98% overall pass rate. Teachers expressed their well wishes for students who now go on to start the next stage of their life journey.
Plymouth High saw particular success in subjects including German, Politics and Media where 100% of all grades were A* to C and in English Literature, Art and Core Mathematics where more than 65% of all grades were at B or above.
Whilst we are proud of all our students, there are some standout individual achievements. These include:
• Agatha G achieved 4 A grades and is deciding on her next steps.
• Charlotte B achieved 3 A* grades and is going to Kings College London to study Political Economy
• Taliah CP achieved 2 A* grades and 2 A grades and is planning on taking a gap year.
• Izzy C achieved an A* and 2 A grades and is looking forward to going to Cardiff University to read Law
• Lola S achieved 4 A grades and is holding place at Cardiff University to read Psychology.

“Each year our students move onto a range of exciting challenges and whether it be university, further education, apprenticeships, employment or a gap year, we have every confidence they will achieve remarkable success embracing our motto, ‘for life not school we learn’.”

Plymouth High School for Girls hosted their sports awards evening this week, celebrating the students sporting success over the past year.
A round up of the events that have taken place in the library in the Summer Term 2024
The results are in! For the first time, Year 12 students took part in the Cambridge Chemistry Challenge against 12,968 students from across the country. Our 12 challengers achieved 5 copper awards (bronze equivalent), 1 silver award, and a gold award - putting our students roughly in the top 10% of students entered, with the other 5 students receiving participation awards. Well done Year 12!
