Med-Soc Live returns to PHSG

On Monday 27th March we have the fantastic opportunity to, once again, host Med Soc Live (previously Operating Theatre Live) in school.

This year, the event will revert to students only: first refusal to Plymouth High School students and externally to invited schools from across the city. This event is open to Year 9 through to Year 13 Students only.

The event operates in such a way that is appeals to students considering both medicine, dentistry and veterinary science as well as those considering: nursing, midwifery, paramedic science, occupational therapy, pharmacology, biomedical science and sport science or anyone who has an overall interest in anatomy and biology.  This event gives people the chance to complete dissections beyond the scope of the curriculums currently studied at either GCSE or A-level Science. Students who attended the previous event found it thoroughly enjoyable, insightful and a fantastic experience to talk about upon application for future careers or courses.

The event is delivered by the award-winning human anatomist Samuel Piri who has featured on the BBC, The Discovery Channel and Medicplayer.

At the event, Sam and his team will provide the opportunity for students to participate in the dissection of real organ specimens include a head and brain, lungs and heart as well as a digestive tract showcasing the stomach, liver, gallbladder, pancreas and intestines.

The theme of this year’s event is that of a road traffic collision. In this five-hour immersive live event students will systematically work through the organ structures in a race against time they will follow the clinical journey in an attempt to save the patient’s life working with real organs and tissues. A gripping, front row seat into the world of medicine.

The ticket price this year is £29. To book tickets please contact: Charlie.doddrell@phsg.tsat.uk for the BACS payment details and email a completed copy of the attached consent form to the same address. PHSG students can make payments through ParentPay.

This event is limited to 60 students and will soon be advertised to the surrounding schools.  If your child or you are interested in attending please sign up to avoid disappointment.
