St Nikolaus visits Year 8 in their German Class

The 6th Dec is St. Nikolaustag in Germany and Year 8 celebrated it in a traditional German way during their German lesson today.

We learned about the tradition of St Nikolaus helping the poor and how German children put their shoes outside on the 5th December.

If they have been good then their shoes get filled with treats. If they have been naughty they may get a visit from Knecht Ruprecht or Krampus in Austria and receive sticks!

We found Krampus very scary! Luckily we had all been good and received some treats.

We celebrated by singing some traditional German Nikolaus songs like ‘Lasst uns froh und munter sein’!
