Outstanding GCSE results lead to exciting next steps!

Students and staff are celebrating today as this year's GCSE results are revealed

I have loved being a Plymouth High student. The teachers are so supportive - and that's why I'm staying here for Sixth Form.” - Clara M

Hard work and determination have paid off with students achieving some excellent results, enabling them to secure coveted post-16 study options.

School staff have enjoyed celebrating with students today and have been on hand to provide advice and guidance on the most appropriate level 3 courses.  As usual, most of the students in Year 11 are considering A levels for their next steps, with the majority of Year 11 likely to stay on at Plymouth High.

Students performed particularly well in English Language, History, Music, Food & Nutrition, German and Art & Design.

Alongside the school's overall success, many pupils have achieved exceptional individual results; a fifth of all students secured at least five GCSEs at grades 9 or 8, whilst a quarter of students achieved at least eight GCSEs at grades 9 to 7.

Particular mention should go to eight of our students, including Emily B, Clara M, Cleo C and Olivia H who achieved grades 9 to 7 in all of their GCSEs!

We also celebrated with younger students from Years 8 and 10 who took some GCSEs early; all results awarded were at grades 9 to 7.

I love the community here at Plymouth High, I have always felt celebrated and valued without it feeling competitive. The community is so welcoming, I've made lots of friends in my year group. The teachers are reliable and genuinely go out of their way to support us. I’m looking forward to coming back for Sixth Form.” - Emily B

I love the whole 'vibe' at Plymouth High. The teachers are really supportive, and it is such a nice environment to learn in. I'm excited to continue my journey with the Sixth Form here.” - Cleo C

I’m very pleased with my results today and will be staying on for Sixth Form at Plymouth High. All of the staff here are so lovely and supportive, and I’ve made great friends.” - Elizabeth E

I'm really pleased with my results and can't wait to start Sixth Form and study my favourite subjects.” - Olivia H

I was very excited to receive my grade 9 today. All of the teachers here are so friendly and there is a real sense of belonging. I’m looking forward to Year 11 now and working towards making my A level choices.” - Neva O, Year 10

I’ve been so well-supported by my teachers – my language teachers provided me with helpful revision materials, and the pastoral support from the Heads of Year has really encouraged me. Thank you!” - Gabriella N, Year 8

It is wonderful to see our young people collect their GCSE results today and for them to be excited about what lies ahead. Students have worked hard and shown resilience and determination which has resulted in some superb outcomes.  I am immensely grateful to our dedicated and caring staff team for the way they have helped our young people to perform at their best.  My thanks also to our super parent body for their support and encouragement.  I wish all our Year 11 good luck with their next steps and hope they enjoy their post-16 learning and beyond.”  - Mr Underdown, Headteacher

I am very proud of our Year 11 students and the GCSE results they have achieved. It has been great to see so many celebrating their hard work, determination and personal achievements. While the results are an important measure of academic progress, the tutor team and I are particularly proud of the individual stories behind them. Students have achieved outcomes reflecting their personal goals, overcome challenges and demonstrated resilience along the way. They have grown enormously as individuals and supported and encouraged those around them. I congratulate every student and thank their tutor team, teachers and families for their support throughout their GCSE journey." - Mr Law, Head of Year

Today is an opportunity to celebrate the achievements of our students and recognise the dedication they have shown in reaching this important milestone. We are incredibly proud of the Plymouth High School for Girls students and all they have accomplished, with the support of their families and the staff and leaders at the school. I look forward to seeing them build on this success as they take their next steps towards bright and exciting futures." - Mr Jay Davenport, Regional Director at Thinking Schools Academy Trust
