From sprint finishes to problem-solving

We are delighted to celebrate some recent achievements in both athletics and mathematics, showcasing the talent and dedication of Plymouth High students

Athletics

Well done to Year 7 students - Annabel O (7T), Eloise M (7L), Liv H (7K), Holly R (7A), Haneen K (7L), Lacey H (7K), Thea D (7T), and Bea C (7T) - who took part in the recent Super 8 Athletics competition run by PSSP at Foulston Park.  The team were excellent ambassadors for Plymouth High and all performed brilliantly in their various events.  Special mention to Eloise for her hurdles win and a personal best in the long jump; Liv H for winning her 800m heat with grit and determination; and Annabel for throwing the shot putt for the first time and achieving the longest throw of the day!  Our relay team should be very proud of themselves too, because despite dropping the baton on the last changeover, they persevered and finished a proud 2nd!

And well done to our Year 8 students who attended last week’s athletics event with special congratulations to Ruby S (8K) for achieving 1st place in the 200m and high jump, and to Alison O (8A) for securing 1st place in the 100m and long jump.  A fantastic effort also from Ruby and Alison again, along with Gabby N (8A) and Tilly D (8K) who came 1st in the 4x100m relay.

Well done to everyone who took part!

Mathematics

Last but not least, a big well done to the academic success of Holly F (8A) and Holly W (7K) who were not only ‘Best in Year’ for their respective year groups in the UKMT Junior Challenge in May – a one-hour, multiple-choice national mathematics competition – but their scores were so high that they went on to qualify for and complete an additional challenge named the ‘Kangaroo’.

Congratulations girls!
