A thoughtfully designed, nutrient-rich breakfast menu showcased Neva's culinary talents
Winning the TSAT Food Influencer Competition has been such a rewarding experience, as cooking has always been an important part of my life. I have always loved how cooking allows me to express creativity in so many different ways and how food brings people together. My passion for cooking began when I watched my mum craft elaborate birthday cakes in the kitchen every year for family, and I remember feeling a sense of wonder at how she was able to make them so perfectly. Although cooking is currently only a hobby, I am so excited to continue it, both in school and at home." - Neva, Year 10
The competition challenged students to design and prepare an exciting, nutritious breakfast menu to support students during the exam season. Neva rose to this challenge with a carefully planned and beautifully presented selection of dishes that combined flavour, balance, and nutritional value.
Neva impressed the judges with her inventive and well-executed menu, which included:
- Crispy Rice Omelette – a protein-rich dish with a satisfyingly crisp texture
- Caramelised Banana Yoghurt Bowl – a naturally sweet and nourishing option
- Refreshing Orange & Coconut Drink – a hydrating and revitalising beverage
Together, these dishes reflected a strong understanding of how food can support concentration and energy; essential during exams!
The judges were particularly impressed by Neva’s ability to cook under pressure, as well as her attention to detail in presentation. Her calm approach and technical competence resulted in dishes that were both visually appealing and thoughtfully prepared.
As the overall winner, Neva has been awarded a day at the Ground-Up Cookery School in Chudleigh. During this experience, she and the other attendees will take part in foraging activities, enjoy a barbecue lunch, and participate in a fermentation workshop – an exciting opportunity to further develop her skills and passion for food.
I am incredibly proud of Neva’s achievement. Her success highlights the talent and dedication within our school community, and she is a wonderful role model for aspiring young cooks.
