A proud day for our hockey heroes

Yesterday’s finals offered our U14s an exciting opportunity to showcase their skills against other top teams from across the region

Yesterday, the PE team had the pleasure of taking ten Year 7–9 students – fresh from earning the title of best team in Devon – to compete in the U14 West of England State School Hockey Finals.  Simply qualifying for this prestigious tournament was an outstanding achievement, and our students arrived already feeling incredibly proud.

Across three pool matches, the team worked hard to find their rhythm, drawing in their opening game, narrowly losing the second, and securing a strong win in their final match.  Unfortunately, despite defeating the team who ultimately placed 2nd, goal difference meant our girls finished 3rd – a heartbreaking result given the effort put in by the girls.  However, this moved the team into the Plate competition, where they continued to battle brilliantly, finishing in 4th place.

Player of the Tournament:  Players' Player:

Pip G, 8L for her ‘can do’ attitude & never giving up!

Charlotte M, 9T for her outrageously relentless effort throughout the day!

PHSG team: Freya B, Amelia B, Charlotte M, Tegan H, Margot E, Pip G, Kensa A, Annabelle M, Martha K, Eloise M

We are immensely proud of every student who represented the school in both the Devon tournament and these regional finals. As always, our girls conducted themselves beautifully, demonstrating exceptional sportsmanship, resilience, and teamwork, doing both the school and their families proud. A huge well done to our Hockey Legends!

It certainly isn’t always about coming home with the win, and our motto, ‘For life, not school, we learn’ feels especially true when we see our young people learning resilience, joy, and teamwork in moments like these. The girls showed great competitive spirit throughout this competition and supported each other beautifully. Well done indeed! – Mr Underdown
