A new voice for Plymouth

We are delighted to announce that Year 8 student, Gwen, has been chosen as a Member of Youth Parliament for Plymouth after a citywide vote

11 young candidates were selected earlier this year and put to the vote by people aged between 11-18.  Over 11,000 voters cast a ballot with the results of the UK Youth Parliament announced on 25th March.

Two local members were elected as part of the national scheme, Plymouth High School for Girls student, Gwen M, 8L being one of them.  And as if that wasn’t exciting enough, Gwen's campaign issue - mental health support in schools - received the most votes and was the 'Your Voice' topic winner with 2,492 votes.

The next step for Gwen will be working alongside other elected and deputy Members with the Council, local partners, and national Youth Parliament networks to start developing her campaign and bringing focus to other issues she would like to champion.  Gwen is going to update us during her term which runs from 1st April, and we look forward to seeing how she grows through this incredible opportunity.

Gwen’s election success is a real celebration of her kindness, maturity, and leadership.  She embodies our motto that ‘for life, not school, we learn,’ and it is inspiring for all to see how she is choosing to use her voice.  Well done Gwen, what an outstanding achievement –
