Fun with Food: Cooking Up Creativity with Rukmini Iyer

During Curriculum Enrichment Week, PHSG’s Fun with Food students welcomed a very special guest into the classroom - virtually. Bestselling author and food stylist Rukmini Iyer joined the group via Teams to share her journey from law graduate to celebrated cookbook writer. She spoke about how her passion for cooking and an eye for presentation led her into the world of food styling, and eventually to publishing a series of popular one-pan recipe books. Her advice and stories offered an exciting glimpse into the creative side of food.
Inspired by Rukmini’s talk, students were challenged to create their own original one-pan meal, using her guidance on presentation and styling to bring their dishes to life. From comforting classics to bold new flavour combinations, they cooked with enthusiasm and flair, demonstrating not only technical skill but real creativity in plating and storytelling.
Rukmini was thoroughly impressed, praising both the high standard of work and the warmth and charm of the students. She said she loved seeing how they engaged with the challenge and used her tips to elevate their creations.
Congratulations go to Chloe in 9A, whose dish stood out for its inventiveness and beautiful presentation. A signed copy of one of Rukmini’s books is on its way to her, an inspiring reward for an outstanding effort.
PHSG’s young chefs proved that with a little inspiration, a single pan (or two 😉), and a lot of imagination, food can be more than just a meal. It can be a masterpiece.
