Careers South West advisers deliver youth support to young people aged 13-19 in this school to enable them to make a successful transition to the next stage of learning or into work. This is a statutory duty of the local authority and is funded through a contract with Careers South West let by the local authority.
The work delivered by Careers South West on behalf of the local authority has three distinct elements to it:
- providing an assessment for young people with a learning difficulty and/or disability as defined by Section 139a of the Education and Skills Act (2008), and by supporting them to make a successful transition to post 16 education and training opportunities
- tracking and following up young people in years 11-14, in line with the requirements of Department for Education, to ensure that they have an offer of learning post 16 and continue to engage in learning and work
- supporting vulnerable young people to engage in education, employment and training, through early interventions and preventative work with those at risk of disengagement
